Standing Against Abuse

The month of May has been a productive and eventful month for Redeeming Zoe Cebu. Throughout this month, we have been continuously doing our mission, to educate and spread awareness to the community on matters regarding child protection. This month we are grateful for:

MAY MONTHLY WINS:

  • The opportunity to speak to almost two hundred students from a big university here in Cebu, addressing the importance of safeguarding children and promoting their well-being. What’s exciting is that all students who joined are education majors. They will be future school teachers so the importance of collective responsibility in protecting children was emphasized. We had a wonderful time and received good feedback from the students. We were amazed when a student shared that she was a victim of abuse as a child and was forced to live at a shelter. She shared that our topic made her realize she should not be ashamed of what she has been through but instead, it should empower her to speak up and stand against abuse for the younger generation.

  • This month we finished our lesson series with the two Barangay outreach areas. Each time we finish with a certain Barangay, we celebrate the children’s effort in completing the lesson series, which normally lasts for about ten weeks. We had a wonderful celebration. We also conducted parent training afterward so both children and parents are educated in ensuring the safety, welfare, and healthy development of children. We will surely miss the kids but we are also excited to move forward and educate other children from a different area.

  • We are also dedicated to improving our staff capabilities, so this month our staff joined an in-depth workshop about child protection policy. The team revisited the essence and worldwide standard of child protection policy for child workers and it was helpful in identifying areas of improvement, rectifying complacency, and strengthening our own child protection policy in place.

  • Our monthly Club Kinabuhi parents gathering and food pack distribution continues and we feel so connected with our parents more than ever. We are grateful for their trust and belief in us. During gatherings, they open up about their current struggles and ask for prayers over them. We thank the Lord for the privilege to show God’s love for them through prayers.

WHAT’S TO COME:

  • RZ Lesson partnership with churches and other organizations

  • New Baranggay outreach

  • Partnership follow-ups
