Celebration & Advocacy
November is one of the busiest months for us here at Redeeming Zoe Cebu, because it is National Children’s Month in the Philippines - a month dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of the child and raising awareness about various issues that affect their well-being. Throughout the month we had a series of trainings and awareness campaigns. This month is also very special because our Founders, Becca and Hillary came to visit their second home after being away for three and a half years. Help us celebrate and look back on this beautiful month we had.
NOVEMBER MONTHLY WINS:
Club Kinabuhi Family Day - we did our first family day activity for Club Kinabuhi participants with an adobo cooking contest. It was a first-time experience for our families and the event offered a break for them from their everyday struggle, providing a chance for them to spend time and have fun with their family which is very essential to a healthy and thriving family.
This month we were able to train over 150 parents about the Philippine laws protecting children and the rights of a child. We strongly believe that being knowledgeable about the laws and rights of the child is very important so that one can advocate for the well-being of their children and they will know when their child is being violated. We also taught the parents about the dangers of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children and how to protect their children against it.
In three different events, (two churches and one shelter) a total of 139 Children were taught about their rights as a child. Each gathering's goal is for children to have a nurturing and safe environment where they feel heard, valued, and empowered. We do this by teaching them that they are important, that they have the chance to take care of themselves, and how to identify safe adults.
One of the answered prayers this month is we got to spend time with our Founders as they came home after three and a half years. We had a wonderful time looking at the milestones achieved over the years. We also share success stories and discuss future strategies on how we can improve and grow as an organization. With them present, we did our first face-to-face local board meeting for this year and it was very exciting to add two new board members.
This month is about celebrating God’s goodness through Redeeming Zoe over the past seven years, acknowledging challenges ahead, and renewing our pledge to continue working tirelessly for the well-being and protection of our children.
